VILLAMOR AIR BASE: call for volunteers #YolandaPH #reliefPH

POSTED ON December 2, 2013 AT 1:33 pm

via the Art Relief Mobile Kitchen on Facebook, Mia Macapagal, 1:00pm.

Just served the fastest, busiest lunch ever. An estimated 500 or so meals from 11 am to 12:30, serving sinigang na baboy, nilagang baka, roasted chicken and pansit. And all accomplished by a skeletal team of about less than 15 volunteers.

So. For our shoutout, we have most of the items already we need on hand or on the way. We just need YOU, volunteers, to make it happen.

We’re still welcoming volunteers for now, later and tomorrow. Just sign up in the google docs. No need for confirmation and just come. Hope to see you there!

VILLAMOR AIR BASE: guidelines for volunteers #YolandaPH #reliefPH

POSTED ON November 24, 2013 AT 2:32 am

These are excerpts from the official announcement on Operation Salubong on its Facebook page, culling only information relevant for volunteers.

UPDATED, 11/24: FAQ Sheet for Operation Salubong at VILLAMOR AIR BASE
Updated: Friday, November 24, 12:59 AM

1. What is the current situation for Operation Salubong? Oplan Salubong has now been transitioned back to VILLAMOR AIR BASE by the government from Camp Aguinaldo (a day after they announced the transition of operations to the camp in Quezon City). The DSWD has assumed its responsibility in attending to the evacuees from the Visayas region, and will take leadership over the operations from the civilian volunteers who were in charge prior to November 21.

2. How will Operation Salubong work moving forward? The DSWD has re-designed the flow of Operation Salubong, where the various government agencies (DSWD-NCR, DOH-NCR, OCD-NCR, PIA-NCR, LGUs, MMDA, etc.) have stepped in to assume control over the different committees handling the relief work in Villamor. DSWD is acting at the lead agency running operations at the air base. Private citizens will no longer be involved in running the operations at the site.

3. Are volunteers still welcome to help in Operation Salubong? What if I pre-registered to volunteer before November 21? Can I just walk-in?

Yes! Volunteers are still welcome to help out. The DSWD has assumed responsibility over volunteer management at Villamor and are in charge of registering and orienting volunteers.

Unfortunately, all orders/sign-ups for those who have pre-registered on the Eventbrite website are now VOID. The DSWD has implemented a new system to register volunteers and they have also changed the schedules of duty for volunteers, so individuals must now proceed to Villamor Air Base and head to the volunteer registration booth at the entrance of PAF Grandstand to register as INDIVIDUAL/WALK-IN volunteers.

Those who did not register on Eventbrite but who are interested to volunteer must now proceed directly to Villamor Air Base and register on site.

4. How about groups? Do they accept group registration? Group registration is being accepted by the DSWD. Interested groups who want to register together must appear on site at least 1 hour before their planned schedule of duty so that the DSWD can fit your group in accordingly.

5. Given the change in the volunteer process, where can we now be assigned? Which committees are available? What are the new schedules of duty/shifts?

Volunteers can choose among the following:
– Medical services
– Psychosocial services
– Assistive services (Food, Marshal, Clothing, Maintenance, Escort for Oplan Hatid)

New schedules of duty/shifts:
– 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN
– 12:00 NN to 4:00 PM
– 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
– 8:00 PM to 12:00 MN
– 12:00 MN to 4:00 AM
– 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM

Take note that if there is a large influx of volunteers, you may have to wait for the next shift to be able to volunteer, as the DSWD is currently controlling the number of volunteers depending on the fluctuating number of evacuees coming in that need to be assisted. This may also work in reverse (those who volunteered for the next shift are pulled in) if there is a very large number of evacuees that arrive.

All donations are now being centrally managed by the DSWD. Donations can be dropped off directly at the grandstand, beside the Information Desk. Upon arrival there, the DSWD will inventorize what you have donated and provide a receipt. For cooked food donation, please ensure that they are still fresh and will not easily spoil.
